What does a screen business actually do here?

Mostly it keeps open windows usable, in Honolulu and everywhere else on the island. Hawaii homes lean on screens more than most: in 2020 about four in ten used no air conditioning at all, and only one in eight had central air. On Oahu that means jalousies, sliders and lanai panels taking sun, salt and trade winds every day. The work itself is plain craft. Pull the old spline, cut the cloth oversize, roll it in without stretching the cord, trim it clean, and check that the frame stayed square. We rescreen and rebuild window screens, repair screen doors and sliders, rescreen lanais, and fit jalousie, pet, solar, retractable and security screens.

Older Honolulu homes, original openings

About two in three homes on Oahu were built between 1940 and 1989, and fewer than one in ten went up after 2010. Detached houses make up a little under half of all units, and buildings of three or more units most of the rest. Plenty of original frames, old track hardware and screen sizes nobody stocks any more.

So in Honolulu we expect to measure rather than order from a catalog. Odd sizes get new frames cut to fit, older sliders get rollers matched to the door, and condo work follows the building's own rules for lanais and doors.

How we work

Four habits on every Honolulu job

None of this is unusual. It is just the part of screen work that is easy to skip when a job is rushed, and it is what decides whether the screen is still tight a year from now.

Measure three times

Width and height at three points each, and the smallest number wins, so the screen seats instead of bowing.

Fresh spline only

Old cord goes hard and brittle. New spline, sized to the groove and to the thickness of the cloth.

Metals kept apart

Aluminum gives way when it touches steel or stainless in wet salt air, so contact points are thought through.

Repair if it is enough

A straight frame with sound corners gets new mesh, not a new screen.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Quote in writing

Itemized before anything is cut or removed.

Mesh explained

The trade-offs of each cloth, in plain words.

Clean finish

Old mesh and spline taken away with us.

All of Oahu

Honolulu, Hawaii Kai, Kapolei and Kailua.

Our word

We would rather tell you a frame is fine and only needs new mesh than sell you a screen you did not need. If a job needs a licensed trade or a permit we cannot arrange, we will say that up front too.
