What Screen Repair Costs on Oahu

Rescreening cost on Oahu turns on the mesh, the size, the frame and the trip out. Here is what moves the number, and why island screen shops quote by phone or after a visit.

Price drivers

What moves a rescreening quote?

FactorHow it changes the price
Rescreen or rebuildNew mesh in a sound frame is the lighter job. A bent, missing or corroded frame means cutting and joining new rails.
Mesh typePet and solar cloth cost more per square foot as material than fiberglass, and pet cloth is slower to roll in.
SizeBig screens need stiffer extruded stock and sometimes a center bar. Tall ones need support while the cloth goes on.
Doors versus windowsSliding screen doors add rollers, track work and heavier frames, so guides price them separately from window screens.
Lanai panelsPorch and lanai rescreening is usually figured by the square foot, not by the panel.
Visit minimumSmall jobs often carry a call-out minimum, so grouping screens into one visit spreads it.
Salt damagePitted frames and corroded corners near the shore may need a rebuild instead of a rescreen.

Written numbers for Honolulu screen jobs

No island screen business we checked posts a price list; the local habit is a quote by phone or after a visit. Comparing quotes only works when each one covers the same things, so here is what ours puts in writing.

Per-screen lines

Each Honolulu screen or panel gets its own line, with the mesh named, so you can drop one from the job and watch the total change.

Repair before replace

If a frame can take new mesh, we say so. A new frame is quoted only when the old one can no longer hold a spline.

Tax shown plainly

Hawaii's general excise tax appears as its own visible line, never folded into the screen price.

Big installs on paper

Permanent work such as a lanai screen system gets a full written quote, and any permit or license-holding trade it needs is arranged before work begins.

Two paths

Why can Oahu screen quotes run above the mainland?

Mostly because of materials, not labor. Mesh, spline and frame stock reach the island by ship, so the goods side of a screen job costs more here than the same job on the mainland, while the labor side moves far less. Then comes Hawaii's general excise tax, shown on its own line. Across Oahu we rescreen windows, sliding and hinged doors, lanai panels and jalousies, and we build new frames when the old ones are past saving. Every job ends the same way: you get a written quote after we see the job.

How do you get an accurate quote?

A good number starts with good information. Five minutes with a tape measure and a phone camera saves a second trip.

1

Count and measure

List every screen you want done and the window or door it belongs to. Measure width and height in three places each and note the smallest.

2

Describe the damage

Torn cloth alone is a rescreen. Bent rails, loose corners or white powder on the aluminum point to a frame problem, and that changes the price.

3

Written price

You receive a written price per item, with tax on its own line, before any work is scheduled. Nothing starts until you approve it.

4

Batch the visit

Grouping screens spreads any visit minimum. A whole house of screens often fits into a single visit of a few hours.

Cost questions

Rescreening cost questions, answered

Four things: the mesh, the size of the screen, whether the frame can take new spline or needs replacing, and how many screens go in one trip. Small jobs carry a visit minimum. For a real number, send your screen count and you get a written quote after we see the job.
The panels. A covered Oahu lanai is priced on its own panel count, panel size, mesh and frame condition, not on a mainland pool-cage figure, and the quote comes in writing after we see them.
Yes, as material. Pet-resistant and solar fabrics are heavier vinyl-coated polyester and cost noticeably more per square foot than standard fiberglass.
Rescreening is cheaper whenever the frame is straight and sound, because only the mesh and spline are new. Replacement makes sense when the frame is bent, missing or too corroded to hold a spline. A new window screen means cutting and joining fresh rails first.
Yes. Hawaii's general excise tax may be passed on to you.
For larger home improvement done under a state contracting license, Hawaii requires a written contract signed by both sides before work starts. Small service work that needs no county permit is exempt from that rule. Either way, ask for the price in writing before anyone begins.
Yes. A practiced hand works through a whole house of screens in a single visit, and one trip instead of several is the simplest way to keep the per-screen price reasonable.
